Current Mortgage Interest Rates Chart

Despite the initial expectations of a decrease in mortgage rates for 2023, the reality has been quite different. Over the course of this year, the 30-year fixed mortgage rate has displayed significant fluctuations, ranging from 6% to 7%. At the beginning of September, mortgage rates hovered just above 7%, but by early October, they had surged into the mid-7% range, according to data from Freddie Mac. This notable increase marked the highest recorded mortgage rate since the year 2000.

While the Federal Reserve refrained from raising interest rates temporarily in September, it remains in active deliberation regarding the possibility of a rate hike during its late-October meeting. Should economic indicators support the necessity of such an increase, it is highly probable that such a decision will be taken.
